Love it or hate it, football fever has arrived this year in the shape of the World Cup. Why not gather friends around for this monumental event - and make sure that guests are replenished with good food while they scream at the TV.
Generally, finger-foods are the best bet for feeding a crowd. Avoid anything fussy like dainty canapés or elegant sandwiches. Your guests will want something they can grab from a plate and eat on the sofa without having to balance wobbly plates on their knees. Try these ideas for football party food.
Chicken Wings and Drumsticks for World Cup Snacking
Wings, thighs and drumsticks are cheaper and juicier cuts than the more expensive breast meat and can be cooked in large quantities in the oven. First, soak the skinless chicken drumsticks and wings in a shallow bowl of milk. Then put each chicken piece into a bowl of flour seasoned with generous pinches of paprika, cayenne pepper, salt and black pepper. Pan fry in a little oil until golden (around 5 minutes) and then transfer to an oven tray and cook in the oven for around 25 minutes on 200C, until fully cooked through. Serve with napkins!Alternatively, try one of the many marinades that are available from the supermarket and cook as per the instructions on the bottle. Serve next to a bowl of hot potato wedges and a large bowl of home-made crunchy coleslaw.
